Over the summer, President Trump signed an executive order entitled “Improving price transparency and quality in American healthcare to put patients first.” This order proposes regulations on price transparency. Drug companies and hospitals are being asked to develop plans to begin disclosing the costs of drugs and medical services in advance, like most other products.
The Department of Health and Human Services expects that greater transparency will lead to greater competition and, ultimately, to a reduction in costs for the patient.
